Business Management and Financial Strategy

As the CEO of Lynx Nature Books, I bring over 25 years of experience in small business management, supported by a degree in Business Economics, an Executive MBA, and two postgraduate degrees in finance and business management. At Lynx, my responsibilities range from strategic direction to managing financial intricacies, always with the goal of advancing our natural history publishing endeavors despite sector challenges, which I view as growth opportunities.

I am driven by enthusiasm, motivation, and trust in others, constantly seeking new strategies to elevate our operations from project development to global product delivery. Leading our dynamic team, I foster seamless collaboration and comprehensive support for our internal team and external partners, ensuring the exceptional quality of our books and services.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy dancing and cherish moments with family and friends, finding inspiration in both my personal and professional growth.

Amy Chernasky

Project Coordination and Production Management

Hailing from Rhode Island, USA, and a University of Pennsylvania alumna, my 20-year journey with Lynx has been a lesson in meticulous book project coordination. I excel in managing diverse teams—authors, artists, photographers, editors, and production specialists—to create nature books renowned for their quality and presentation.

Passionate about resolving challenges, I aim to deliver final products that highlight the contributions of all collaborators and serve as tools for scientific dissemination and reader enjoyment, upholding Lynx’s legacy. My work is both professionally fulfilling and a means to express my dedication to conservation, collaborating with international NGOs and scientific institutions like BirdLife International, IUCN, and the Smithsonian Institution. Through these projects, I hope to raise awareness about wildlife and the importance of its protection.

Outside the office, I enjoy exploring nature with my family, instilling in my children the values of respect and care for our natural world.

Ana Conesa

Marketing, Communications, and Customer Service

My lifelong passion for reading and curiosity for the world led me to earn a Journalism degree from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and gain work experience in the UK. Returning to Barcelona, I pursued a master’s degree in Publishing. I have recently completed a specialization in Digital Content to stay abreast of emerging trends.

At Lynx, my role involves implementing personalized customer service systems, devising communication and marketing strategies, and contributing to production and coordination activities. I bring dynamic energy and seasoned expertise to every facet of Lynx Nature Books, continually striving to enhance our readers’ experiences. My commitment to excellence and innovation drives me to create and curate content that not only informs but also inspires a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, attending concerts, and watching films, often sharing these experiences with friends and family.

Ana Lineros

Administrative Accounting and Global Logistics

With a solid foundation in administrative accounting and a commitment to excellence, I bring over two decades of experience to Lynx Nature Books. My role encompasses overseeing billing operations and coordinating shipping logistics for both national and international deliveries, aligning with our mission to deliver our books to nature enthusiasts worldwide.

My dedication, efficiency, and organizational skills foster a collaborative environment where customer needs are paramount. I proactively seek solutions to challenges, a mindset that benefits both my professional and personal endeavors.

Beyond work, I value quality time with my family and actively participate in my children’s educational and athletic activities, contributing to various parental associations and sports organizations for over a decade.

Alex Berryman is a familiar component to the Lynx Nature Books team, having previously worked for three years helping to write, compile and edit texts for the Lynx and BirdLife International Field Guide Collection. In 2021 he joined the BirdLife International Science Team, where he now works as a Red List Officer, leading IUCN Red List assessments for birds in Asia and the Pacific. He also sits on the BirdLife Taxonomic Working Group and is a member of the IUCN SSC Asian Songbird Trade Specialist Group. Alex maintains several research interests in South-East Asia and Australasia, with special foci on avian geographic variation, threatened species and their extinction risk, and poorly known species and regions, with frequent trips (especially to Wallacea and Indochina) to the region to help address many of these shortfalls.

Josep del Hoyo Calduch is a medical doctor by training with a degree from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In 1989, together with Ramón Mascort and Jordi Sargatal, he founded the publishing house Lynx Edicions, and he acted as its director from that point until his retirement in 2021. He is the Senior Editor, along with Andrew Elliott, Jordi Sargatal and David A. Christie, of the Handbook of the Birds of the World series in 17 volumes (1992–2013), Co-author with Nigel J. Collar of the HBW and BirdLife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World in two volumes (2014, 2016), and the Editor of All the Birds of the World (2020).

Josep has participated actively in Conservation entities in Catalonia (President of the League for the Defence of Natural Heritage, DEPANA, 1988–1993), in Spain (Vice President of SEO/BirdLife, 1994–2008), and globally (Member of the Global Council of BirdLife International, 2005–2013).

In 1998, he began taking video of birds during his travels. In 2002 he started the Internet Bird Collection, a valuable online resource that has since become part of the Macaulay Library. The platform served as an online resource for his own material and that of other keen birders eager to share their audio-visual material. To date, Josep has taken video of more than 5,600 species, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to birdwatching and his dedication to promoting conservation efforts worldwide.

Guy Kirwan was born in northwest England and has been a birdwatcher for more than 40 years. Despite an honors degree in History and English Literature, he has never worked in any other field but ornithology. Primarily an editor of monographs, field guides and other bird books, he worked on two volumes of the Handbook of the Birds of the World, and between 2012 and 2019 he updated or wrote more than 3,300 species accounts for HBW Alive; he now works for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology on Birds of the World. He has conducted ornithological field research in Turkey, Yemen and Socotra, Brazil, and Cuba, and has published widely in the technical literature on birds. Following ten years living part-time in Brazil, he is again residing in Norwich, in eastern England, and is a Scientific Associate of the Bird Group, at the Natural History Museum, Tring, although he also maintains professional associations with the Field Museum of Natural History, in Chicago, and the Museu Nacional, in Rio de Janeiro.

Albert Martínez Vilalta holds a Degree in Biology from the Universitat de Barcelona. He has been deeply involved in conservation and research, particularly as Head of Conservation and Research at the Parc Natural del delta de l’Ebre (1986–1999), where he led projects on wetland ecosystems, migratory birds, and endangered species. Albert has authored over a hundred articles, book chapters, and scientific books, including contributions to the Handbook of the Birds of the World and various bird atlases in Catalonia and Spain.

He has been an active member of numerous conservation organizations, including SEO/BirdLife, where he served on the board and contributed to the Rare Species Committee, and the Institut Català d’Ornitologia, where he was President from 2005 to 2008. His publishing career at Lynx Edicions spanned over two decades (1999–2020), during which he contributed to more than 100 books, including the Handbook of the Mammals of the World, where he served as an Associate Editor.

Daniel Roca Orta holds a degree in Information and Communication Sciences and has spent much of his professional life in the publishing sector. His expertise spans graphic design, content writing, illustration, and publishing, with additional experience in audiovisual production.

With a strong passion for ornithology, Daniel has also trained extensively in this field. He has participated in several ornithological projects with the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC), focusing on species like the European Roller, Greater Short-toed Lark, Little Bustard, and European Turtle-dove. As a ringer and active member of the Catalan Ornithological Institute (ICO), he has been involved in raptor monitoring and ringing campaigns. He continues to dedicate his free time to local ornithological initiatives, including the II Atlas of nesting birds of the Maresme.

In recent years, Daniel has collaborated closely with Lynx Nature Books on the design and production of numerous publications, contributing his diverse skills to the creation of high-quality nature books.

Jordi Sargatal Vicens (Figueres, 1957) is a zoologist with a career spanning over five decades, focused on ornithology, wetlands, and land management. A key figure in the campaign that led to the creation of the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà Natural Park, Jordi served as its Director for 14 years. He also led the Servei de Control de Mosquits de la Badia de Roses i Baix Ter and directed the Fundació Territori i Paisatge, promoting nature conservation through strategic land acquisitions.

In 1989, Jordi co-founded Lynx Edicions with Ramon Mascort and Josep del Hoyo, contributing as a co-editor to the Handbook of the Birds of the World. He has authored several influential books on birds and natural areas in Catalonia.

Jordi has held leadership roles in various conservation organizations, including the ICHN, IAEDEN, and APNAE. He has also been a board member of SEO/BirdLife and an advisor to both Catalan and Spanish government environmental initiatives. Currently, he serves as the General Director of Grup Mascort, focusing on sustainable tourism and the management of natural and cultural heritage.
