John L. Hunt

John L. Hunt is Professor of Biology and Director of Pre-Medical Studies at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he has taught since 2004. He holds a Ph.D. in Biology from Auburn University, where he studied under Troy L. Best. His research focuses on the ecology and conservation of birds and mammals of the American Southwest and Southeast, particularly the lesser prairie-chicken, bats, and small mammals.

Hunt has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications and technical reports, and he is coauthor of Mammals of the Southeastern United States (2020) and the forthcoming Mammals of the Southwestern United States. He has received multiple university honors for excellence in teaching and advising and has played an active role in mentoring undergraduate researchers. He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Mammalogists and the Southwestern Association of Naturalists.
