One in every four bird species in Spain is currently threatened, according to criteria set by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). An additional 32 species are considered “near threatened” and may soon be reclassified into higher risk categories if urgent conservation actions are not taken. Altogether, nearly one-third of Spain’s bird species face some degree of conservation concern.
